Rakefriars Cottage, Saffron Walden

On the outskirts of Saffron Walden, this project was a two-storey extension along one side of the property. A full refit was carried out internally, with a new kitchen and ensuite bathrooms. The architect, who encourages and uses sustainable materials in construction, designed the extension using flint work, wood fibre insulation and lime-based materials.

With our experience of traditional methods in construction and alongside the architects’ specification, we extended this property keeping the period feel but up to modern standards.

Biodiversity was a planning requirement for the development. We achieved this by incorporating bee bricks and swift boxes recessed within the structure.
