The Long Barn, Wheathampstead

The original Barn had become structurally unstable and an insurance company was brought in to administer the structural repairs.  Together with a structural engineer and the insurance company a schedule of works was drafted.  This involved the stripping of the clay peg tiles and structural repairs to numerous oak rafters and some of the oak trusses.  Whilst in construction the client carried out betterment works and introduced a multi-layered insulation which enabled the ridge height to remain at the same level whilst still keeping the rafters exposed internally.
