History

George Ekins and Brian Mortlock founded the company in Ware in 1803 as stonemasons and builders.

The business moved to Hertford and thrived during the nineteenth century under the control of Mr Ekins' son, George and grandson, Henry.

In 1903 the company was incorporated and moved to new premises at Great Northern Works where new offices and showroom, joiners shop, sawmill and stores were built.

After the First World War Fred Norman joined the business as an estimator/manager eventually becoming Managing Director later succeeded by his son, Denis and grandson, Fred.
